The #1 New York Times bestseller! Michael Jackson's one and only autobiography – his life, in his words.
With original Foreword by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, a new Introduction by Motown founder Berry Gordy, and an Afterword by Michael Jackson's editor and publisher, Shaye Areheart.
"I've always wanted to be able to tell stories, you know, stories that came from my soul. I'd like to sit by a fire and tell people stories – make them see pictures, make them cry and laugh, take them
anywhere emotionally with something as deceptively simple as words. I'd like to tell tales to move their souls and transform them. I've always wanted to be able to do that. Imagine how the great writers must feel, knowing they have that power. I sometimes feel I
could do it. It's something I'd like to develop. In a way, songwriting uses the same skills, creates the emotional highs and lows, but the story is a sketch. It's quicksilver. There are very few books written on the art of storytelling, how to grip listeners, how to get a group of people together and amuse them. No costumes, no makeup, no nothing, just you and your voice, and your powerful ability to take them anywhere, to transform their lives, if only for minutes." –Michael Jackson, in
Moonwalk
From the 1988 edition:
Megastar Michael Jackson's singularly brilliant career and intensely private lifestyle have become a magnificent obsession for millions of rock fans and celebrity watchers throughout the world. His double-platinum singles rocket to the top of the music charts with a velocity equaled only by the inevitable accompaniment of wild rumors about his eccentric personal life. Now for the first time, Michael Jackson breaks the fiercely guarded barrier of silence that has surrounded him in a remarkably candid and courageous book —
Moonwalk.
In this intimate and often moving personal account of Michael Jackson's public and private life, he recalls a childhood that was both harsh and joyful but always formidable. Michael and his brothers played amateur music shows and seamy Chicago strip joints until Motown's corporate image makers turned the Jackson 5 into worldwide superstars. Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 have combined sales of over 200 million albums. He talks about the happy prankster days of his youth, traveling with his brothers, and of his sometimes difficult relationships with his family over the years. He speaks candidly about the inspiration behind his music, his mesmerizing dance moves, and the compulsive drive to create that has made him one of the biggest stars in the music business and a legend in his own time.
The Guinness Book of World Records lists
Thriller as the biggest-selling-album of all time.
In
Moonwalk, Michael Jackson shares his personal feelings about some of his most public friends…friends like Diana Ross, Berry Gordy, Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney, Fred Astaire, Marlon Brando, and Katharine Hepburn. He talks openly about the crushing isolation of his fame, of his first love, of his plastic surgery, and of his wholly exceptional career and the often bizarre and unfair rumors that have surrounded it.
Illustrated with rare photographs from Jackson family albums and Michael's personal photographic archives, as well as a drawing done by Michael exclusively for this book,
Moonwalk is a memorable journey to the very heart and soul of a modern musical genius.

"His Autobiography, in his own words." 2009-11-08By

I'm about halfway through the book and it is a very interesting look into Michael's mind from the time he got into the entertainment/music business till he was in his late 20's. While there are no great revelations in the book it is an interesting read from his perspective instead of the media's which many times tried to portray him as being "weird". He goes into detail about life on the road, making records, performing, people who influenced him and how he felt about all of the adulation he was getting, how he felt going through puberty, his relationships with his brothers, mother and father and his sisters, his family dynamic, etc. He glosses over his relationships with women but that's no surprise. I like the book, it's pretty interesting. I will update the review when I finish the book. I do recommend the book and give it 5 stars because it's well put together and has some nice pictures and commentary by people such as Berry Gordy.

I love this book, it's truly a window into Michael Jackson's heart. He was a magnificent human being - loving, kind, insightful, and both innocent and wise for his 29 years when this was written. How we let such a treasure slip through our fingers, how we let a vicious worldwide media rip him apart, is incomprehensible. It's an absolute crime.
Michael's life story, told in his own words, is sheer delight. To see what shaped him into the astonishingly brilliant performer and talent he was for so many years is wonderful. The stories about his family, his brothers, and the numerous people he interacted with throughout the years are enchanting. His spiritual depth and loving heart sparkle on every single page.
It is truly heartbreaking to know he is gone forever. If you are a Michael Jackson fan, you cannot do with out this book.

I enjoyed reading and getting to know Michael Jackson better. At times I can actually hear his voice by just reading the words. If you are a fan or just liked how he performed, I would take the time to read it and get to know him a little better. Sheds light behind this introverted, shy soul who could only break out of his shell when he was performing or when he was with people that went through what he did as a child. There is no doubt in my mind that he was a very lonely man and that makes me sad because he was known by virtually everyone and he gave all that he had freely because he had a heart and cared. He was a gentle human being and he was made to look like a monster when he wasn't. There is no doubt in my mind that the media contributed to his loneliness and kooky behavior...and ultimately destroyed him. I question all the charges that were ever brought about him, I question all the things the media wrote about him and I question the integrity of most of the people that he had around him on a daily basis because there is no doubt in my mind that he was innocent and that people just wanted a piece of him and his money, no matter what they were willing to do in order to get it. I pray that he is finally at peace.

The book is great!! It's nice to read something wrote by Michael, instead all these books wrote by people who thinks to know his life. Besides, the design is amazing. The book is sign by Michael in the cover with golden letter and inside of the book too. Besides there's a draw about himself made by himself and there are so many photos, all of them with a mention. You can't miss this book!!
